Creation of an Urban Micro Forest

The Municipality of Thessaloniki created an Urban Micro Forest in the 2nd Municipal District, at the intersection of Mikis Theodorakis Avenue and Agion Panton Street. Covering approximately 1,100 sq.m., the project introduced an urban micro forest with 3,250 plantings, including 250 trees, as well as shrubs, herbaceous plants, and other species selected to enhance biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of the urban environment.

The project was made possible through a donation from L’Oréal Hellas S.A., which also undertook the maintenance of the site for its first three years. This initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader strategy to expand urban green infrastructure, improve the local microclimate, and create more sustainable and resilient neighborhoods.
